BITCOIN WALLET NZ
The New Zealand Bitcoin wallet that puts you in full control — self-custody, instant Lightning payments, and easy on-chain storage, all in one app.
The Stacked Bitcoin Wallet
The Stacked wallet is a self-custodial Bitcoin app built for New Zealanders. You hold your own keys — no exchange holding your funds, no third party who can freeze your account. Available on iOS and Android, it combines everyday Lightning payments with long-term on-chain storage.
Built on proven Lightning infrastructure, the wallet is Bitcoin-only, which means no altcoins, no noise, and no complexity — just your Bitcoin, in your control.
What You Can Do
Buy Bitcoin
Purchase Bitcoin directly in the app using NZD via supported New Zealand bank payment methods. Funds land in your wallet without leaving the Stacked experience.
Sell Bitcoin
Convert Bitcoin back to NZD and withdraw to your linked bank account. Competitive rates, processed locally.
Lightning Payments
Send and receive Bitcoin instantly over the Lightning Network — perfect for everyday purchases, splitting bills, or paying anyone in New Zealand without waiting for confirmations.
On-Chain Storage
Store Bitcoin on-chain for long-term holding. Your keys, your Bitcoin — no expiry dates, no custodial risk.
Spend Anywhere
Use your Lightning wallet to pay at participating NZ merchants, or send Bitcoin to anyone with a wallet address — locally or worldwide.
Full Control
You own your keys. Stacked cannot access, freeze, or restrict your funds. If you lose your phone, your recovery phrase restores everything.
Self-Custody Explained
Many New Zealand crypto platforms hold your Bitcoin on your behalf — they store the private keys, and you trust them not to freeze, lose, or misappropriate your funds. That's custodial.
Self-custody means you hold the private keys. Stacked's wallet generates your keys locally on your device and encrypts them with your PIN or biometrics. Your recovery phrase (12 words) is the backup — if you lose your phone, you can restore your entire wallet on any compatible app.
With self-custody:
- No exchange can freeze your account
- No third party can lose your funds through poor security or bad management
- Your Bitcoin is accessible anywhere, anytime, as long as you have your recovery phrase
The tradeoff is personal responsibility — if you lose your recovery phrase, no one can recover your funds. That's why secure backup matters.
Lightning vs On-Chain: What's the Difference?
| Lightning | On-Chain | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | Instant | 10–60 minutes (1+ confirmations) |
| Best for | Everyday spending, small amounts | Long-term storage, larger amounts |
| Cost | Near-zero fees | Network fee (varies) |
| Amounts | Small to medium | Any amount |
Security Tips for New Zealanders
- Write down your recovery phrase offline — not in Notes, not in cloud storage. A metal backup is even better for long-term holders.
- Never share your private keys or recovery phrase — Stacked will never ask for them.
- Enable biometrics — use Face ID or fingerprint as a second layer of protection on top of your PIN.
- Verify receiving addresses — check the first and last few characters of an address before sending large amounts.
